The bestiary is a guide to some of the animals around the area that could generally cause us trouble. Most of them are a threat to the pups, not grown wolves.
NOTE: Humans aren't on this list because humans don't harm red wolves. Red wolves are being introduced to parts of the USA in this general area:
so killing one would be a crime... I think. SO no, some dude isn't going to come up, yell "ITS A WOLF KILL IT" and start shooting at you. That would be stupid.
Rat
Rats are nasty little rodents and aren't your normal dietary choice, and eating rats can make a wolf fairly sick. Near the human place, rats sometimes come in large hoards on one or two wolves and can bite several times, causing infection and sometimes death.
Coyote
The coyote isn't a serious threat, however it is capable of killing and possibly eating our puppies. Especially right now, since we're a small pack, a couple of packs of coyotes COULD chase us away from kills, but that is quite unlikely.
Golden eagle
Golden eagles generally aren't a threat to grown wolves, but they like to steal and eat pups, so watch out.
Mountain lion
Mountain lions are formidable foes should a wolf ever make a bad encounter with one. They are about our size and have powerful claws. But they do not usually come near us, so mountain lion attacks are somewhat rare.
Foxes
Foxes steal pups, and like to carry them off at night.
Grizzly Bear
Bears are fierce animals that often try to scare us from our kills, and are often sucessful in their work, as we are a bit smaller. The whole pack could chase away a young one, though.
Snakes
Snakes are one of our deadliest enemies in late spring, summer, and early fall. The most common and dangerous species is the Copperhead. It's bite could be fatal if not treated in time, and would be easily fatal to a pup or yearling.
