Okay. we seem to chase a lot of new members off with our style of roleplay, so I decided to make this thread. BUT, even if you aren't new here, it might be good to read this.
Now, as you might have seen, this is a semi literate and up roleplay. Your definition of semi-lit might be different from ours, so here's how we judge skill level. Each section will contain a roleplay sample and a brief explanation.
Illiterate: Oh, dear lord. Please, if you roleplay like this, read some books, kiss somebody, watch some TV, do anything but roleplay. If you are illiterate, you are absolutely terrible at roleplaying. If you are illiterate, you use chat speak (lik dis) in roleplay and have poor grammar and/or character design skills. Please don't find your way down here.
RP SAMPLE starlite walked in teh forest. the lite shined in hre face nd mad her eyez glow.
(Oh, dear god.)
Semi-Literate If you categorize yourself down here, semi-lit is a good thing. It means that you usually follow the skirt rule: long enough to cover the essentials, short enough to be interesting. If you are semi-lit, welcome to the majority of the site. Semi-lit IMO is one of the best kinds to be if you are aspiring. Semi-literates normally write a paragraph or two (depending) and keep things short but sweet. Usually semi-literates have good character designing skills and.or grammar, but everybody has their downfalls, right?
RP SAMPLE Lya padded into the forest, the cool breeze rustling her fur much to her distaste. It made her itch, and itching was something she didn't like. After some roaming, the female stumbled upon a hare. Her stomach's rumbling made her very tempted to kill the animal, so she set out on a mad chase to the poor thing. After a lot of biting and kicking, the hare finally died before it got to its hole.
Literate Literate roleplayers are considered to be among the best, although the line blurs a little bit between literate and advanced. Literate roleplayers are as they are called, literate. They have good grammar, a large vocabulary, and can write very well. I categorize myself under literate nowadays, actually. But, some literates tend to fill their post with fluff (as I catch myself doing) or have bad character design. It depends on the person, actually.
RP SAMPLE (snippet) Lya blinked, padding into the moist forest. Her gait was slow and steady, her heartbeat just as well. A single breeze disturbed the area, as well as her fur. The breeze agitated her a good bit, seeing at it made her skin itch. Worse than the fleas, really. While the female was pondering with the fact the breeze aggravated instead of soothed her, a hare came out of hiding. Awakening her insides, the animals scent wafted through her nostrils. She took in aura and realized just how hungry she was. In an attempt to stalk, Lya crouched in some brush and slowly heaved herself forward, taking great care in staying quiet. Once the female got within leaping distance, she jumped from the brush, startling the hare. It kicked, bit, and was right vicious. Eventually, however, she caught up with the wild thing and finished what she had started. (An actual literate post would be much longer than this but this is just a general of grammar use and vocabulary... kinda. I have suckish writing skills.)
Advanced Advanced is as it states; advanced. Advanced roleplayers have a very wide and ever expanding vocabulary, next to perfect grammar, long, detailed posts, and are overall, one of the best. While they may seem to write a novel in one post, it is usually filled to the brim with details and essentials alike.
I am incapable of writing an advanced roleplay sample, but you'll know it when you see it (;
Now, on to wolfspeak.
WolfSpeak is a very, very large vocabulary to use to describe your wolf. While wolfspeak doesn't always apply to wolves, its where it originated and it used most frequently. Here is a post of wolfspeak:
'Th' mighty brujo smelt th' scent of a femme blow through 'is nares. Tall pillars working quickly, 'e padded over to 'er an' 'e dipped his crown in respect. 'Is auds swiveled forwards as the sound of another brute coming towards them filled 'is ears. "Ah demand you t' show yerself, brujo! This 'ere terra is mine, an' this fae belongs to me! Challenge me if you wish, but for I am th' strongest wolf in th' forest, so do not expect t'win!" 'E 'owled, an' th' fierce brute let a growl escape 'is maw.
-Urban Dictionary"
Now, you want that translated? Can't blame you.
"The mighty male smelled the scent of a female blow through his nose. Tall legs working quickly, he padded over to her and dipped his head in respect. His ears swiveled forward as the sound of another male coming towards them filled his ears. "I demand you show yourself, male! This here territory is mine, and this female belongs to me! Challenge me if you wish, but I am the strongest wolf in the forest, so don't expect to win! " He howled, and the male let a growl escape his mouth."
You see? Big difference. I honestly don't like wolfspeak because a) It's hard to write. I wrote with wolfspeak once and I died every post, and b) it makes you seem like a pompous snob with a dictionary if used wayyy too frequently. I use some wolfspeak (Fae, bodice, pads) but sparingly, just to add some spice. Just not like... that. So please, for the sake of us all, don't use a whole bunch of wolf-speak.
ROLELPAYING FORMAT/WHERE TO POST
Alright, here's something else that confuses people. We have no word count. None whatsoever. Although there is, indeed, a word counter, its just for those who set their own word count. EG, I always want to have at least 100-500 words. However, we do have a certain way of where we post things and how.
Where: On the description of the roleplay area. EG, if you wanted to post at circle of oaks, you would post at the threat entitled circle of oaks.
When: After the person you're roleplaying with replies.
How?
Okay. So that's pretty much all you need to know, but reading our roleplay posts to help you get a general idea would be nice. Be sure to read the rules,do drugs, and have fun, kiddos.
